ACME Materials Company can trace its roots all the way back to early 1900s.
In 1919, Automatic Gravel Products Company purchased 40 acres of land South of Muscatine where they began their mining operations. In 1922, they moved their headquarters to Davenport, Iowa.
In April of 1934, ACME Fuel and Material, filed their articles of incorporation in the State of Iowa.
In 1955, ACME Fuel and Material took over the operations of Automatic Gravel Products Company.
Over the years the company has:
- Produced washed sand and gravel
- Distributed high grade fuel
- Produced Dri-Crete cement mixes
- Distributed building materials
- Produced asphalt mix for road construction
- Distributed coal, fuel coke, lumber & tile products
The firm ranked among the top ten producers of sand and gravel in the state of Iowa. Distribution of products eventually grew to include customers in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Minnesota.
In 2012 a partnership formed by Brian Hahn and Roy Carver Jr. acquired the assets of ACME Materials Company and Block Ready Mix Group from Chris Rayburn. That same year the Muscatine County Conservation Board accepted a donation of 425 acres of land from the Rayburn Family to be used for recreational fishing. The parcel includes the first land the company ever mined.
Today the ACME Materials Company specializes in common sand mining. The company produces state approved concrete sand for applications in both Iowa and Illinois, various sizes of washed river gravel, a washed mason sand, and a washed and graded fines free USGA 2 premium sand for golf and sports’ fields.
